Falcons Run at Queens Royals Challenge
Charlotte, N.C. (Oct. 12, 2018) – Pfeiffer's men's and women's cross-country teams traveled to McAlpine Park in Charlotte to compete at the Royals Challenge hosted by Queens University. The race served as the last regular season meet for the Falcons, as they prepare to enter championship season.
The meet featured 50 teams across Division I, II, III, NAIA, JUCA, and USCAA. Each race featured 400 runners, which was easily the largest race that the Falcons have competed in this season.
Sophomore Devon Williams led the men's team. Williams covered the 8K (4.96 miles) course in 25:52. Williams matched his season-best time, which he ran two weeks prior on the same course. Sophomore Jakob Miller-Ulrich ran a personal best time of 31:05, besting his previous best time by more than two minutes. Freshman Jackson Hanrahan also saw a personal best, running 31:39 which was a minute faster than his previous best.
The men's team placed 36th out 43 teams that scored.
On the women's side, Senior Megan Miller led the team once again running a time of 20:57. Miller has been the top finisher for the Falcons in the three previous races.
Sophomores Tiffany Bartholomew and Cailen Fusetti and Freshman Martha Zuniga all saw personal best. Bartholomew ran 24:17 which was a 20-second improvement on her previous best. Fusetti finished the 5K course (3.1 miles) in 25:47 besting her previous top mark by two minutes. Zuniga saw a three-minute improvement on her best as she finished the course in a time of 31:46.
The Falcons will return action in two weeks as they travel to Maryville Tennessee for the USA South Championships. This season will be the first year that the Falcons will be eligible to compete for the USA South Championship.
