Eaton Scores Twice as Pfeiffer Women's Soccer Downs Guilford, 3-1

Misenheimer, N.C. (Sept. 18, 2019) – The Pfeiffer University women's soccer team got a pair of goals from junior Cayci Eaton, as they downed visiting Guilford College 3-1 in the home opener in front of a lively crowd at Lefko Field on Wednesday night.

Guilford jumped ahead first when Sydney Moss fired a shot that hit Falcon goalkeeper Kaley Hyatt (St. Cloud, Fla.) in the hands, then rolled off hit the left post and back into the net at the 2:36 mark.

The lead would be short-lived as Eaton, a Harrisburg, N.C. product, leveled the field with a shot past Guilford goalkeeper Morgan Malinowski off a pass from Dayanna Riera (Bronx, N.Y.)  following a deflection in the 18th minute.

Junior teammate Meredith Manson (Auburndale, Fla.) provided the eventual game winner when she also scored an unassisted goal off a deflection in the 42nd minute, putting Pfeiffer up 2-1, a lead they would carry into the halftime break.

In the second half, Pfeiffer's defense clamped down on the Guilford attack by limiting the Quakers to a single shot, while uncorking seven of their own.  The final score of the match came in the 75th minute, when Eaton received passes in traffic from Krystal Jaimes (Asheboro, N.C.) and Manson then buried the ball into the Guilford net.

Hyatt finished the outing with four saves while Malinowski returned eight saves for Guilford.

The win improves the Falcons to 4-2 overall while Guilford slips to 2-3-1 with the loss.

Pfeiffer will return to play at Lefko Field on Saturday, Sept. 21 when they host Roanoke College in 5:00 p.m. match.
