Maryville, Tenn. (Aug. 31 2019) –  After being tied 2-2 at halftime, the Pfeiffer University women's soccer team gave up three second-half goals and fell at Maryville on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Kelsey Esquivel (Charlotte, N.C.) scored the first of her two goals on the day when she rocketed a shot past the Maryville keeper from 20-yards out.  The Scots drew even 20 seconds later on a cross that was redirected past Falcon goalkeeper
Madison Riddle (Mocksville, N.C.).

Maryville took the 2-1 lead in the 34th minute on an unassisted goal into the bottom right corner of the net.  Pfeiffer did battle back to tie the match at 2-2 when Cayci Eaton (Harrisburg, N.C.) took a pass from Kayla Blankenship (Asheboro, N.C.).

Maryville would then score three straight goals to open the second half, the first of which would come in the 62nd minute on a shot after a rebound off the crossbar.  The next two goals for the Scots came less than three minutes apart, in the 77th minute and the 79th minute, making it 5-2.

Pfeiffer would get the last goal of the match, this coming on an unassisted goal from Esquivel in the 82nd minute.

The loss drops the Falcons to 1-1 on the season while Maryville improves to 2-0.

Pfeiffer will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 5 with a road matchup with Southern Virginia.
