MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Goals by Brittany Papaj and Kim Olvera led host Pfeiffer University past visiting Erskine College 2-0 in Conference Carolinas women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon. In a matchup featuring two of the top teams in the league, the Lady Falcons improve to 5-4 overall, 4-1 in conference play while the Flying Fleet drop to 3-5-1, 3-2.
After a scoreless first half and Pfeiffer holding a 5-2 advantage in shot, the match's first goal would come on a penalty kick in the 65th minute of play. After Erskine was whistled for a foul inside the 18-yard box, Papaj would convert the penalty opportunity to put the hosts on the board. Insurance later in the form of Olvera's first of the season iced the victory for the Lady Falcons.
Britt Polly stopped three shots in net for Pfeiffer to preserve the shutout. The Lady Falcons took 12 shots in the match to Erskine's four, 7-3 in shots on goal.
Pfeiffer will now step out of conference play on Wednesday night traveling to Catawba for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Lady Indians.
