MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Freshman Aaliyah Jackson scored her first two collegiate goals including the overtime game-winner as Pfeiffer University defeated Carson-Newman College 2-1 in women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon. The victory gives the Lady Falcons their first win of the season evening to 1-1 while the Eagles fall to 0-2.
Jackson started the scoring in the 65th to break a scoreless draw with a shot just inside the 18-yard box that snuck inside the left post for a 1-0 Pfeiffer lead. Carson-Newman's equalizer came 13 minutes later in the 78th minute thanks to Mikayla Gregg's top shelf goal.
Jackson's game-winner would come in the eighth minute of overtime taking a loose ball from 30 yards out on a breakaway to secure the Lady Falcons' first win of 2012. Carson-Newman battled back to force overtime after playing a man-down from the 17th minute on due to a first half red card.
Pfeiffer outshot Carson-Newman 22-10 in the win also leading 9-4 in corners. The Lady Falcons would have plenty of chances in regulation to take control but was whistled for 11 offsides on the night. Britt Polly would make four saves in net for Pfeiffer while Kendra Ivans turned away 13 for Carson-Newman.
Pfeiffer will now hit the road for their next contest on Wednesday traveling to Lenoir-Rhyne for a 5:00 p.m. matchup with the Bears. Live stats will be available through http://www.gofalconsports.com.
