BANNER ELK, NC – The Pfeiffer University women's lacrosse team beat Lees-McRae by a score of 12-8 on Wednesday afternoon to improve to 7-3 on the season while remaining undefeated in Conference Carolinas play; the loss drops LMC to 2-4 (1-3).

With a 5-0 record, the Falcons are tied with Limestone (8-1, 4-0) for first place in the CC standings.

Sophomore Ally Unkenholz paced Pfeiffer with a game-high five goals – her third straight performance with four or more – and six draw controls. Junior Molly O'Friel (Chesapeake Beach, MD / Huntingtown HS) found the back of the net four times, adding four ground balls while forcing five turnovers. Junior Josie Lent (Vestavia Hills, AL / Vestavia Hills HS) scored the other three goals for the Falcons, setting a single-game career best.

Pfeiffer, which outshot Lees-McRae 29-16, jumped out to a 2-0 lead after a successful free position shot from Unkenholz (23:31) and a quick follow up from O'Friel (23:03) and looked to take control early. However, the Bobcats were able to respond with three consecutive goals over the next eight minutes to go up 3-2. But the imposing one-two punch of Unkenholz and O'Friel allowed the Falcons to do much of the same, as they answered with a three-goal run of their own to take a 5-3 advantage at the half.

After battling for the first 10-plus minutes of the second frame, it wasn't until the 14:20 mark of the second half when Pfeiffer was able to break away from the opposition, as Unkenholz connected on her second unassisted goal of the game to give the team plenty of breathing room with the score at 10-5 on its way to its third win over its last four appearances.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sam Hanlon (Summerfield, NC / -) received the first win of her career, recording three saves playing all 60 minutes in the crease.

Pfeiffer will go on the road to take on Limestone for sole possession of first place in the Conference Carolinas standings this Saturday, March 25 at 3 p.m.
