Falcons Suffer First Loss of Season in Road Game Against Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. - The Pfeiffer women's lacrosse team (3-1) dropped its first game of the season, falling to Wingate (2-1) by a final score of 20-9 on Wednesday afternoon. The loss ends Pfeiffer's three game winning streak.

The Falcons started off hot, scoring the game's first three goals. Megan Bourque, Molly O'Friel and Ally Unkenholz put Pfeiffer up 3-0 just 3:32 into the match. However, the Bulldogs would score three unanswered to even the contest.

With 19:07 left in the first half, Bourque scored her second of the game to put Pfeiffer up 4-3. Wingate would catch fire to end the half, scoring eight straight goals to go into the break with an 11-4 advantage.

10 seconds into the second half, Brittany Andrews increased Wingate's lead to 12-4 before Kylie Lode stopped the scoring spurt with her first of the afternoon. The teams would trade goals before Wingate scored three straight to seal the victory.

Unkenholz would score three times and add an assist in the contest. O'Friel also netted a hat trick and Bourque scored twice on three shots.

Andrews scored five times for Wingate and three other players scored three goals.

Emily James made 12 saves before giving way to Sam Hanlon for the final nine minutes of the game.

Wingate held an 18-12 edge in ground balls and a 19-12 advantage in draw controls. The Bulldogs dominated the shot column, doubling up the Falcons 38-19.

Pfeiffer returns to action on Sunday as they host Huntingdon at noon.
