Greensboro Takes 82-69 Win Over Pfeiffer Women's Basketball
Misenheimer, N.C. (Jan. 11, 2020) – Visiting Greensboro College had two players score 25 points each and limited the Pfeiffer women's basketball team to 34.6% shooting on the afternoon in an 82-69 USA South game in Merner Gym on Saturday afternoon.
The Pride (8-3, 5-0 USA South) jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead over the first 1:36 of the game, but Pfeiffer fought back to within two points with 7:27 left. Greensboro then used a 17-3 spurt over the rest of the quarter to take a 26-12 lead, one that they would not relinquish.
Pfeiffer (6-7, 3-2 USA South) did outscore Greensboro by a 21-20 margin in the second quarter, but the Pride kept their double-digit lead until Pfeiffer clawed to within six points (48-42) with 5:22 left after a three-pointer from Pfeiffer's Shalonda Wilkins (Chesterfield, Va.) Greensboro pushed their cushion back to 54-44 at 3:45 and would lead by no less than 10 points the rest of the way.
Pfeiffer had three players score in double figures, led by Brina Bentley's (Chester, Va.) 17 points. Bentley also added a team-high eight rebounds. Wilkins managed 14 points and hit four from long range while junior A'Mya McClain (Hickory, N.C.) had 13 points. Senior Kortni Pinion (Stanfield, N.C.) rounded out the scoring for the Falcons, finishing with 10 points.
Greensboro's Ashley Free and Sabria Joseph each scored 25 points in the win. Nichelle Jeffries was the only other Greensboro player in double-digits, as she finished with 10 points.
Pfeiffer will jump back into USA South action on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 12 when they host North Carolina Wesleyan at 4:00 p.m. in Merner Gym.
