MOUNT OLIVE, NC- The Pfeiffer women's basketball team (8-16, 7-13 CC) fell to Mount Olive (16-10, 14-6 CC) by a score of 70-49, on Saturday night. Shontai Totten paced the Falcons scoring 12 points off the bench, on 5-for-9 shooting. Ariana Tillman narrowly missed a double-double scoring 10 points and pulling down nine rebounds for the Falcons.
The Trojans shot a blistering 58.8 percent from long range, knocking down ten 3-pointers. Ni'Ya Styles hit six from long range, scoring a game-high 24 points, and Daria Simmons was 5-for-6 from the floor scoring 16 points for Mount Olive.
The Trojans started the contest on an 18-2 run, and took an 18-6 first quarter advantage. The Falcons cut into the lead in the second quarter, outscoring Mount Olive 20 -14 in the frame. With Pfeiffer trailing 28-20 with 3:21 remaining in the half, the Falcons went on a 6-0 run, capped off by a Safia Sheikh three pointer cutting the lead to 28-26.
Mount Olive pulled away in the second half outscoring the Falcons 38-23. The Falcons turned the Trojans over 17 times, leading to 23 points.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Tuesday, February 23, hosting Belmont Abbey in the final home game of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
