MISENHEIMER, NC- Despite a 19 point outburst by Safia Sheikh the Pfeiffer women's basketball team (5-8, 4-5 CC) fell to Mount Olive (8-7, 6-3 CC) 75-50 on Saturday evening. Sheikh drilled six three pointers shooting 46% from long range for the Falcons.
Midway through the second half the Falcons trailed the Trojans 29-16, Sheikh answered scoring six unanswered points cutting the lead to 29-22. Felicity Havens put Mount Olive back up 11 after knocking down a jumper. The Falcons answered right back finishing the half on an 8-0 run pulling the Falcons within five points, 35-30. Lauren Janka scored four points on that run, including a layup as time expired in the first half.
The Trojans dominated the second half outscoring Pfeiffer 40-20 in the stanza. The Falcons didn't have an answer for center Ariel Johnson, who dominated the half scoring 19 of her 23 points in the third and fourth periods. Johnson finished the contest with a double-double adding a game-high 16 boards.
The Falcons return to action on Monday, with a 5:50 p.m. contest against North Greenville.
