MISENHEIMER, NC- Four members of the Pfeiffer women's basketball team (5-7, 4-4 CC) scored in double figures as the Falcons picked up their fourth win in the last five contests, beating Converse (2-10, 1-7 CC) 78-68 on Wednesday night. Safia Sheikh led the way scoring a team-high 17 points, grabbing five rebounds, with two steals and two assists for Pfeiffer. Ariana Tillman went 5-for-7 from the field scoring 10 points and dishing out two assists on the night.
Freshman Sydni Bickford provided an early spark of the bench knocking down back-to back three pointers, giving the Falcons a 12-6. Bickford finished with a season-high eight points. Pfeiffer scored the final eight points of the first quarter, taking a 20-10 lead into the second period.
The Falcons stretched the lead to 15 points scoring the first five points to start the second period of play. Brianna Jones capped off the second with a layup as time expired to give the Falcons a 40-29 halftime lead.
With 2:15 left in the final frame Brianna James knocked down a three point for the Valkyries to pull them within 10 points, for the first time in the second half. However, the Falcons went 8-for-10 in the final two minutes from the free-throw line to seal their second straight conference victory.
James was the spark for Converse scoring a game-high 28 points, while shooting 50% from the floor and knocking down four three pointers. Yashee Johnson just missed a double-double scoring 10 points and pulling down 9 rebounds for Converse.
Meg Pritchard registered a great all-around effort scoring 10 points, dishing out a team-high 7 assists, with seven boards a block and steal for the contest. Jones scored 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting and was 3-for-4 from the free throw line. The Falcons outshot converse 45.2% from the floor compared to only 39.4% for the Valkyries and recorded five more boards.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Saturday, with a 5:30 p.m. contest against Mount Olive.
