MISENHEIMER, NC- Safia Sheikh notched another brilliant performance for the Pfeiffer women's basketball team (4-7, 3-4 CC) scoring 20 points, grabbing four rebounds, dishing out four assists, with one block and one steal, in a 75-60 victory over Erskine (2-9, 2-4 CC) on Saturday evening. Meg Pritchard chipped in scoring 19 points and recording a team-high seven rebounds on the night.
Erskine took a 24-21 lead into the first quarter. The Falcons responded in the second period holding the Flying Fleet to only nine points in the frame. A minute into the second quarter Shontai Totten knocked down a three point shot giving the Falcons a 26-25 advantage. A Sheikh three pointer capped off a 10-0 Pfeiffer run, which gave the Falcons a 33-25 lead.
The Pfeiffer defense turned up the heat again in the fourth period holding Erskine again to only nine points. The Flying Fleet did not score a basket for the first five minutes of the frame. Sheikh scored 11 points in the second stanza, which included hitting three from long range. Pritchard was 3-for-5 and scored nine points in the Falcons dominate second half of play.
Pfeiffer's defense forced 17 Erskine turnovers and turned them into 25 points. The Falcons dominated second chance points scoring 22 in the contest, while holding the Flying Fleet to just 12.
Brianna Jones scored nine points and was 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Jonaisha Watson recorded a solid all-around performance grabbing five boards, dishing out two assists with one steal and recording seven points. Ariana Tillman scored eight points, with a team-high five helpers, recorded six boards and had three steals for the contest.
Erskine was paced by Myranda Parham, who scored 11 points, with four boards and two assists. Kristen Giles chipped in with 10 points for the Flying Fleet.
The Falcons return to action on Wednesday, January 13 for a home match-up with Converse. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30.
