SPARTANBURG, SC.- The Pfeiffer women's basketball team (3-6, 2-3 CC) picked up their third win of the season with a 60-49 victory over Converse on Tuesday night. Safia Sheikh scored a game-high 16 points, grabbed four rebounds, had five steal and dished out three assists. Meg Pritchard scored 14 points and was 4-for-8 from the floor.
The Falcons and Valkyries played the first period almost even with the Falcons taking a 10-9 advantage into the second frame. With the clock running down in the second half and the game tied 19-19 Shontai Totten drove to the lane made a layup, getting fouled in the process. Totten completed the three-point play giving the Falcons a 22-19 lead.
Pfeiffer scored seven of the first nine points to start the third quarter of play, extending their lead to 29-21. Sheikh gave the Falcons a 10 point lead with 21 seconds left in the period. However, Converse knocked down a pair of free throws to end the period.
The Valkyries pulled within three points 48-45 following three free throws by Kassidy Moorhouse. Brianna Jones ended the run with a made layup. Pfeiffer ended the contest on a 12-4 run recording their second conference win of the season.
Moorhouse paced Converse with 10 points, going 7-for-8 from the line, she recorded two steals and dished out an assist. The Valkyries held a 22-14 advantage in bench points.
The Falcons played stingy defense all night turning Converse over 25 times, which lead to 22 Pfeiffer points. Totten scored 12 points off the bench for the Falcons, while Ariana Tillman added eight points, grabbed five boards, dished out two assists and had two steals.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Friday with a 3:00 p.m. match up at home against Emmanuel.
