Slow Fourth Quarter Dooms Falcons

WILSON, NC- The Pfeiffer women's basketball team (1-4, 1-3 CC) were outscored 29 to 17 in the fourth quarter as they fell to Barton (5-5, 3-1 CC) 66-63 on Saturday afternoon. Ariana Tillman scored 14 points to lead the Falcons on 6-of-12 shooting, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out two assists and had three steals.

With the Falcons trailing 13-4 in the first quarter, Brianna Jones knocked down a jumper as the Falcons scored the final nine points of the quarter tying the game up 13-13. Pfeiffer locked up defensively during the second quarter holding the Barton scoreless for 4:03 seconds and only eight points in the frame, taking a 29-21 lead into half.

Tillman started the third period of play with three straight layups as Pfeiffer extended their lead to 35-23. Safia Sheikh knocked down a three pointer, giving the Falcons their largest lead of the contest at 17 points. Barton cut the lead down to nine points, 46-37 at the end of the third quarter, when Tatyana Jackson knocked down a triple. With five minutes left in the contest Alex Kimble knocked down a three giving the Bulldogs a 51-49 lead for good.

Kimble and Jackson each scored 14 points for the Bulldogs. Kianna Wynn was 6-for-8 from the floor scoring 12 points and pulling down four rebounds.

Jones scored 13 points off the bench on 5-of-11 shooting, Meg Pritchard scored eight points, had four assists and three rebounds for the Falcons. Dajea Scott was 4-for-4 from the floor, scoring nine points, grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out seven helpers on the day.

The Falcons return to action on Monday, play Palm Beach Atlantic in Winter Park Florida. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
