Falcons Fall to No. 9 Limestone

GAFFNEY, SC– The No. 9 ranked Limestone Saints (4-0, 1-0 CC) overmatched the Pfeiffer Falcons (0-2, 0-1 CC) on Tuesday night by the score of 85-56 at the Timken Center on the campus of Limestone College. The Falcons were led in scoring by the pair of Safia Sheikh and Shontai Totten who both scored 12 points.

With less than three minutes left in first quarter, the Saints started to take control of the game as they capped off an 11-0 run when a Le'royia Campbell assist led to a Maurissa Lester layup and a 17-6 lead.

Pfeiffer continued to battle as they cut the Limestone lead to nine at the end of the first quarter, 21-12 when Sheikh hit two of her four 3-point field goals to cut the lead in the last minute and half of play in the quarter.

Sheikh, in the second quarter hit one more of her 3-pointers as she scored six points. Freshman Totten came off the bench and scored six first half points on 2-of-4 shooting from three.  Limestone outscored the Falcons in the second quarter 28-15 and went into the half leading 47-27.

In the second half, Totten continued to be aggressive off the bench as she totaled 16 minutes and set a career-high with 12 points and hit a total of three 3-pointers.  Kayla Whitworth and Meg Pritchard led Pfeiffer in rebounding with six and five respectively.

For Limestone in the second half, Jasmine Miller led the Saints with eight points on two of three from three point land.  Miller led the Saints in scoring on the night with 21 points while Lester had 13 points and ten for Peyton Bockholt off the bench.

The Falcons return to action on Wednesday, December 2nd as they travel to King for a Carolinas Conference match-up that starts at 5:30 p.m.
