FLORENCE, SC- The Pfeiffer women's basketball team opened up the 2015-16 campaign on the road, against Francis Marion on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons struggled offensively and fell to the Patriots 60-48. Pfeiffer was paced by junior forward Meg Pritchard, who scored a team-high 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting. Pritchard also grabbed four rebounds, had two steals and two blocks on the day.
The Falcons started the second quarter on a 6-2 run to tie the game up 14-14. The Patriots answered back scoring the next 12 points of the second period, giving Francis Marion a 26-14 lead. The Patriots took a 27-16 advantage into the half.
Pfeiffer started the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run, which was ignited by a Safia Sheikh three pointer. The run cut the Patriot lead to 37-41, however, Francis Marion held off the late Falcons surge.
Sheikh scored eight points and was 2-for-2 from the charity stripe. Brianna Jones grabbed four boards, dished out three assists and scored 10 points for the Falcons. Dajea Scott was a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor, scoring seven points, adding five rebounds and four assists on the afternoon.
Alaysia Watts and Khayani Chandler scored 14 points each for the Patriots. Watts added a game-high 13 rebounds, including nine on the offensive end.
Pfeiffer turned Francis Marion over 16 times, which lead to 15 points. The Falcons stingy defense also only allowed the Patriots to shoot 33.3% from the floor and 3-for-11 from beyond the arc. Francis Marion held a big advantage in second chance points, scoring 28 compared to only three for Pfeiffer.
The Falcons return to action on Tuesday, November 24, for their Conference Carolinas opener at Limestone. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
