Belmont, N.C. - The Pfeiffer women's basketball regular season ended on the road Tuesday night as the Falcons (6-20, 5-17 CC) fell to Belmont Abbey (19-9, 15-7 CC), 76-51. However, with a loss by Lees-McRae, the Falcons locked up the No. 8 seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament and will travel to top-seed and nationally-ranked No. 3 Limestone on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
The Crusaders were led by McKenzie Owen and Gabrielle Bethel, with each scoring 14 points each. Morgan Midkiff finished with 11 points.
The Falcons, coming off a big win against Lees-McRae, had a tough night against the Crusaders. With the game close early on, Belmont Abbey's defense came to life, recording 36 defensive boards, 14 steals, and six blocks.
Shooting was the biggest contributing factor to Pfeiffer's loss, as the team shot just 29 percent from the floor, compared to the Crusaders 54 percent.
The loss sets up a daunting Quarterfinal matchup for the Falcons. Waiting in the wings is Limestone who capped off an undefeated conference slate with a 90-61 win over Converse. The Saints will bring a 27-1 record and a 26 game winning streak to Saturday's contest.
