MISENHEIMER, NC- The Pfeiffer women's basketball team (5-19, 4-16 CC) dropped a heart breaker on Wednesday night to Southern Wesleyan (7-16, 5-15 CC) 73-70. The Falcons had a huge second half scoring 43 points. The Falcons held a five point lead with 7:13 left in the game 59-54. Meg Pritchard had big game scoring 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting dished out seven assists and grabbed four rebounds. Brianna Jones scored 12 points and Safia Sheikh added ten points.
The Warriors were led by Bri Seda who had a game-high 21 points including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and 7-for-10 from the floor. Chelsie Waters scored 17 points and had four assists.
The Falcons trailed at halftime 35-27 and Southern Wesleyan lead by as many as 13 points with 13:59 left in the game. A jumper by Kayla Whitworth sparked a 9-0 Falcon run and cut the Warrior lead to four points. A layup by Jones gave Pfeiffer a 55-54 lead with 8:09 left in the second half. However, a Southern Wesleyan layup gave the Warriors the lead for good 68-66 with 1:22 left.
Pfeiffer turned the Warriors over 17 times and scored 16 points off those turnovers. The Falcons got a big lift from their bench scoring 29 points and holding Southern Wesleyan to only eight bench points.
The Falcons shot well from the floor shooting 46.6 percent for the game and shot 45.5 percent from beyond the arc in the second half.
Pfeiffer returns home on Saturday, February 21 when they host Lees-McRae for Senior Night. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
