SPARTANBURG, SC— The Pfeiffer women's basketball team (5-17, 4-14 CC) lost a close one in overtime to struggling Converse (3-18, 2-15) Wednesday night, 77-71. The Falcons have now dropped their last 10 games, while the Valkyries snapped their five-game skid.
Dajea Scott led the Falcons with 14 points, shooting 50 percent from the floor. Carlisha Holivay, Kayla Whitworth, and Brianna Jones also had double digits for Pfeiffer with 13, 12, and 11 points, respectively, shooting 50 percent as well.
Converse's Margo Dill recorded the games only double-double, leading both teams in points (22) and rebounds (16), with all points coming after halftime. The Valkyries also received help from Logan Hollis (13 points) and Ashley Salgado and Jakyra Washington (10 each).
The Falcon's controlled the game during the first half, leading by 14 at one point before settling for a 32-20 lead at the half.
Foul trouble from Holivay and Jones, along with 19-of-38 shooting from Converse, allowed the Valkyries to come back in second half. A layup from Washington tied the game at 63 with less than a minute remaining, sending the game into overtime.
In overtime, Converse, shooting 10-for-10 from the free-throw line, outscored Pfeiffer 14-8 to seal the win.
The Falcons will be back home Saturday night against Barton. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
