Women's Basketball Drops Tough Conference Game at Home

MISENHEIMER ,NC- The Pfeiffer women's basketball team (5-15, 4-12 CC) suffered a tough 76-63 home loss at the hands of Belmont Abbey (14-8, 10-6 CC) on Tuesday night as the Falcons trailed from start to finish. Safia Sheikh led the way for the Falcons scoring 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Brianna Jones and Carter Williams each added nine points for Pfeiffer.

Belmont Abbey was led by McKenzie Owen who scored a game-high 26 points, including 19 points in the first half and 13 of the Crusaders first 16 points. Owen added five boards and one assist. Caitlyn Ranson shot 4-for-6 from the floor and scored 17 points.

With the Falcons trailing late in the game, Sheikh tried to bring Pfeiffer back scoring five points in a row. In fact, Sheikh scored all 13 of her points in the second half on 6-of 9 shooting. Falcons leading scorer, Meg Pritchard was only able to play 16 minutes as she was under the weather, but other Falcons stepped up. Lauren Janka provided a boost off the bench as she added four points and four rebounds in her 10 minutes of action. Kayla Whitworth also added six points and six rebounds in a reserve role.

Pfeiffer forced 12 Crusader turnovers and out rebounded Belmont Abbey 43-40.

Pfeiffer received a lift from their bench tonight as the Falcons bench scored 23 points compared to only eight bench points for Belmont Abbey.

Pfeiffer returns home on Saturday for a matchup with No.6 Limestone. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
