TIGERVILLE, SC- The Pfeiffer women's basketball team (5-14, 4-11 CC) dropped a close game on Saturday afternoon to North Greenville (8-13, 7-8 CC) by the final score of 80-75. The Falcons got huge lift from Brianna Jones who scored 20 points and shot 7-of-9 from the floor. Meg Pritchard added 23 points, five boards and four assists for Pfeiffer.
The Falcons did not have an answer for North Greenville's Timisty Nelson who scored a game-high 27 points on 11-of-16 shooting, and grabbed a game high 17 rebound to pick up a double-double. Emily Wampler was 2-for-4 from beyond the arc and contributed 16 points and four assists for the Crusaders.
The Falcons trailed by five points at halftime. North Greenville started the second half on an 11-3 run and would lead by as many as 13 points. Halfway through the second half, the Falcons trailed 63-50. A Pritchard jumper would spark a 10-0 Pfeiffer run cutting the lead to 63-59. Dajea Scott tied the game at 66 as she hit a pair of free throws. However, the Falcons could not find a way to slow down Nelson who sealed the game by hitting a couple of free throws with 22 seconds left.
Pfeiffer outshot the Crusaders 44.2 percent to 40.9 percent but could not overcome a 44-33 rebound disparity. North Greenville turned 18 offensive boards into 19 second chance points and scored 25 points off of 28 Falcon turnovers. Pfeiffer shot 83.3 percent from the free throw line and turned the Crusaders over 22 times.
Calisha Holivay scored 10 points on four-of-five shooting and Scott grabbed 10 boards to lead Pfeiffer.
The Falcons return home on Tuesday, Feb. 3 for a conference matchup with Belmont Abbey. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
