MISENHEIMER, NC- The Pfeiffer women's basketball team (5-11, 4-8 CC) fell on Friday night to Erskine, 78-70. The Falcons lost despite shooting 84.4 percent from the free throw line, including a 17-for-17 effort in the first half. Meg Pritchard led Pfeiffer scoring 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting and grabbing five boards. Carter Williams and Dajea Scott both chipped in with 15 points each.
Erskine benefitted a great deal from the three ball, shooting 50 percent from deep in the second half. Ashley Mull scored a team-high 19 points and was 5-for-9 from distance. Naomi Stuger recorded a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 boards. Ashley Espinosa scored 11 points and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the line including going 4-for-4 down the stretch and sealing the game for the Flying Fleet. The Falcons trailed 25-13 with 7:21 left in the first half. Pfeiffer would end the half on a 22-4 run to surge in and take a 35-29 halftime lead.
The Falcons stayed hot starting the half on an 8-2 run taking a 43-30 lead. The Flying Fleet however, came streaking back with a 16-0 run taking a 70-61. Pfeiffer turned the Flying Fleet over 23 times and held Erskine to 27.3 percent shooting from behind the arc in the first half. Pfeiffer was only able to connect on one of their three point attempts.
Pfeiffer returns to home tomorrow night for a match up with Emmanuel College. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
