CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Pfeiffer women's basketball team (2-5) couldn't overcome a slow start in a 56-49 loss at Johnson C. Smith on Monday night. Carter Williams led the Falcons with 15 points and Meg Pritchard tallied 11 points and 13 rebounds.
It was a tale of two halves for the Falcons in the non-conference matchup. Pfeiffer came out cold and ended the first stanza with just nine points on 3-for-30 shooting. The period would end with Johnson C. Smith taking a 26-9 advantage.
Williams led the charge in Pfeiffer's comeback bid with five three pointers in the second half. The Falcons trailed 43-20 with 9:37 left before storming back. Williams hit three trifectas in just over three minutes and Pritchard scored six straight points as Pfeiffer started heating up. Jordan Bishop's two free throws with 22 seconds to play capped a 29-10 run and pulled the Falcons to within four points at 53-49. The comeback bid fell short as Pritchard misfired on a three pointer after the Golden Bulls converted two free throws.
Pfeiffer's stingy defense forced Johnson C. Smith (7-1) into 36 turnovers and held the Golden Bulls to 37.5 percent shooting. Anika Jones led all players with 21 points, while LaKendra Wilkerson finished with 11 points and 18 rebounds.
The Falcons have a 12 day layoff to regroup before they host Coker on Dec. 20 at 2 p.m.
