MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Meg Pritchard's layup with 1:19 to play gave the Pfeiffer women's basketball team (2-1, 1-1 CC) a 56-55 victory over King (3-2, 1-1) on Tuesday night inside Merner Gymnasium. Neither team was able to score in the final 89 seconds of play as the Falcons held on for their first Conference Carolinas victory of the season.
"This was a very good win for our team," said first year head coach Tooey Loy. "We won this game on the defensive end of the floor. We did a lot of good things on the offensive end but struggled to finish shots."
Pritchard recorded her third straight double-double to start her sophomore season as she finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Pritchard scored 13 of her points in the second half, including six points in the final 4:52.
Carter Williams added 10 points, five assists and three rebounds for the Falcons.
In the final 16:52 of the contest, the lead was never higher four points. Pfeiffer trailed by one with 4:08 to play before Pritchard knocked down a jumper to give the Falcons a 52-51 lead with just under three minutes to go. Alley Sprouse gave the guests a 53-52 advantage before Alexis Stallard put Pfeiffer back ahead with 1:42 left on the clock. A pair of Tornado free throws set the stage for Pritchard's game winner. King forced Pfeiffer into a shot clock violation to get the ball back with eight seconds to go but Tia Keitt was whistled for traveling, ending King's hopes.
Arnelle Collins led King with 14 points and Sprouse added 12 off the bench.
Pfeiffer held King to 28.6 percent shooting in the second half and held leading scorer Kiett to just six points and one made field goal.
Point guard Dajea Scott finished the game with seven points, seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks for Pfeiffer.
The Falcons look to continue their two game winning streak on Saturday as they travel to Catawba for a 2 p.m. contest.
