MONTREAT, N.C. - The Pfeiffer women's basketball team (1-1) notched its first win of the 2014 season as they defeated Montreat (1-5) by a final score of 74-47 on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Meg Pritchard led the way for the Falcons, scoring 18 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in the victory.
"We were disappointed with the way we played on Tuesday," said Head Coach Tooey Loy. "This was an important game for us to correct mistakes and get better. We are learning each other and working hard to improve each day."
Pfeiffer's balanced attack featured four players scoring in double figures. Carlisha Holivay had 14 points, Carter Williams netted 11 and Kayla Whitworth finished with 10.
The Falcons dominated on the boards, outrebounding Montreat 56-30 and allowed only five offensive rebounds all game. Pritchard led the way with 13 rebounds, while Alexis Stallard and Whitworth added seven boards off the bench.
Pfeiffer went 14-for-16 from the charity stripe and forced 21 turnovers.
Hannah Calloway paced the Cavs with 18 points, all coming from behind the arc. For the game, Montreat knocked down nine three point attempts and hit 50 percent of their long range attempts.
The Falcons return to action on Tuesday evening as they host King in Conference Carolinas action at 5:30 p.m. The two teams split their two games last season. Pfeiffer coming away with a 67-62 win at home, while King hit a last second three pointer to steal a 56-54 decision.
