Women's Basketball Falls to Campbell in Exhibition Opener

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - In their first exhibition contest of the season, the Pfeiffer women's basketball team fell to Campbell 89-61 on Friday evening. Meg Pritchard scored a team-high 17 points and grabbed eight boards for the Falcons in her Pfeiffer debut.

The Falcons used a 16-4 spurt over four minutes midway through the second half to cut the lead to 66-54 with just over 10 minutes to play. However, the Lady Camels answered with a big run of their own to secure the victory.

Pritchard scored 13 of her 17 points in the first half as the forward shot 5-for-8 from the floor in the opening 20 minutes. The sophomore from South Australia added three assists and two steals to her stat line and saw 29 minutes. Senior guard Carter Williams connected on three attempts from long range and finished the contest with 14 points, four assists and two rebounds. Point guard Jordan Bishop had six assists and eight points for the Falcons.

Campbell was led by RaeChaun Edwards and Kiera Gaines who each finished with 18 points.

Pfeiffer forced the Lady Camels into 23 turnovers in the game. The Falcons knocked down 40 percent of their three point attempts and held Campbell to 33 percent from downtown.

"Whenever you play up a level, you learn what you're good at and what you need to work on," said first year Head Coach Tooey Loy. "Tonight was a good chance to see different lineups and will make us better heading into the season."

The Falcons return to action on Sunday as they play against Coastal Carolina in their final exhibition game of the year. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
