Pfeiffer Softball Takes Doubleheader Wins Over Guilford in Home Openers
Misenheimer, N.C. (Feb. 22, 2020) – The Pfeiffer Falcons softball team opened the home portion of their 2020 slate by taking both games of a doubleheader over visiting Guilford College on Sunday afternoon at Jack Ingram Field.
Game 1 - Pfeiffer 5, Guilford 3
Game 2 – Pfeiffer 4, Guilford 2
Pfeiffer – 3-1
Guilford – 6-4

How it Happened
After spotting Guilford a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one, junior Kari Westerbeek hit a three-run home run in the third inning to put the Falcons up 3-1. Guilford was able to draw to 3-2 in the fifth inning on a Falcon error, but Westerbeek came up big again in the home half of the fifth by lifting a two-run home run to left field to increase the lead to 5-2. Guilford would get another run in the seventh on a triple, but the Falcons' Taylor Parrish then sealed the game with a strikeout to earn the save.
In game two, Pfeiffer fell down 2-0 after two innings, but closed the gap to 2-1 in the fourth inning when Reece Davis laced an RBI single. Paige Love and Davis then hit RBI singles in the fifth inning to give Pfeiffer the 3-2 lead. Pfeiffer would then get another run to make it 4-2 on a sixth inning error on the Quaker catcher.
Taylor Parrish would surrender a leadoff single in the seventh but was able to retire the next three batters, the final via strikeout to earn the 4-2 win.
The Falcons will travel to Atlanta, Ga. to take on Agnes Scott College on Saturday, Feb. 29 for a doubleheader First pitch is scheduled for noon. Following the games with Agnes Scott, Pfeiffer will then travel to Wesleyan College to tangle with the Wolves on Sunday, March 1, also at Noon.
