Falcon Track & Field Posts Two New School Records and Several Personal Bests at JDL Team Challenge
Winston-Salem, N.C. (Feb. 14, 2020) – The Pfeiffer men's and women's track teams traveled to JDL FastTrack for the JDL Team Challenge and came away with a huge night. During the event, the Falcons broke two school records and 11 personal records were set. Two more athletes also qualified for the ECAC Indoor Championships.
The Falcons didn't have to wait long for the first school record to fall as junior Tonishea Ford set the new mark in the weight throw, which was the first event of the day. Ford launched a career-best 13.44m (44-1.25) which bested the previous school record mark by half-a-meter and bested her previous mark by almost a meter. The throw placed Ford third overall for the event.
The meet was bookended by the second school record falling when senior Curtis Freeman broke his own school record in the mile run. Freeman continued his stellar senior campaign running a 4:39.82 which landed him a fourth-place finish.
Junior Dontavius Monroe qualified for the ECAC Indoor Championships in the 400m dash courtesy of a personal best time of 52.30, finishing ninth. His time was two seconds faster than his previous best.
Junior Keyshawn Campbell qualified for the 60m dash for the second year in a row. Campbell ran 7.25 placing him 13th overall. Junior Tevin Colson and freshman Tasker Brown continued to have solid outings as both had personal records in the 200m dash. Colson's 23.87 and Brown's 23.95 finished 18th and 19th overall in the event.
Other notable performances on the men's side included Kenan Waltower's fifth-place finish in the 60m hurdles, running an 8.72. Freshman Charles Walker made his Pfeiffer debut in the mile race, clocking a 4:58.16 to gather a 10th place finish.
On the women's side, freshman Avia Starnes had a career day in the weigh throw. Starnes improved her previous best mark by over a meter, throwing 11.12m (36-5.75), finishing eighth overall. Teammate Aaliyah Thomas finished right behind her in 9th with a 10.50m (34-5.5) toss.
The Falcons will conclude their regular season next week, as they will travel to the University of South Carolina for the USC Invitational.
