Brevard Gets OT Win Over Pfeiffer Men's Soccer
Brevard, N.C. (Oct. 8, 2019) – Brevard College got a goal in the 100th minute to down Pfeiffer University in a USA South men's soccer match at a rainy Ives-Lemel Family Field in Brevard, N.C.
After battling to a scoreless tie in the first half, Brevard jumped on top when Matheus Masukawa converted a penalty kick in the 53rd minute to gain the 1-0 advantage.
Pfeiffer knotted the match at 1-1 in the 69th minute when Diego Moran (Flushing, N.Y.) uncorked a blistering shot on the Tornado goal, but Brevard goalkeeper Patrick Hall made the save. Falcon teammate
Jonathan Quintero (Mooresville, N.C.) then got a foot on the rebound, one-timing the ball into the left side of the goal.
Neither team would score the rest of the way as the teams headed into overtime. Brevard would then get the game-winner with less than 30 seconds left in the first extra period on a corner kick from the right side. Brevard's Eric Lenhart delivered a header off the Joao Montiero corner kick to provide the 2-1 win.
With the loss, Pfeiffer drops to 5-7 overall and 3-5 in USA South play while Brevard improves to 3-4-2 overall and 3-1-2 in league play.
Pfeiffer will next be in action on Saturday, Oct. 12 when they travel to N.C. Wesleyan for a 4:15 p.m. matchup with the Bishops.
