(Sept. 28, 2019) – Fernando Castro scored less than two minutes into the match as the Pfeiffer University men's soccer team cruised to a 7-1 home USA South win over Berea on Saturday afternoon at Lefko Field.

Castro, a sophomore from Asheboro, N.C., wasted little time by putting the Falcons up with a wide shot past the Mountaineer goalkeeper after receiving a pass from fellow sophomore Connor Morgan (Concord, N.C.).

Morgan would get into the scoring at the 4:13 mark when he scored after receiving a pass from Jonathan Quintero (Mooresville, N.C.)

Caz Dabrowski (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) made it 3-0 following a penalty kick in the 21st minute, a score that would last through the halftime break.

Morgan would add another goal to his tally in the second half, this time in the 57th minute with after receiving another pass from Quintero, putting the Falcons up 4-0.

Dabrowski would net his second of the game to push the lead to 5-0 with Jason Juarez Leyva (Monroe, N.C.) supplying the assist.

Berea would get their goal from Junior Gyamfi after a through pass from Max, Jr..  Gyamfi's shot went wide of the Pfeiffer keeper, hit the left post and bounced in to make it 5-1 in the 70th minute.

Pfeiffer would add two more goals to close the match with Quintero scoring unassisted in the 74th minute after a 25-yard blast into the top right corner followed by Castro's second goal of the match, this time in the 77th minute to provide the eventual 7-1 final.

The win, Pfeiffer's second straight, improves the Falcons to 3-6 overall and 1-4 in league play while Berea drops to 3-8 overall and 0-6 in USA South play.

Pfeiffer will next be in action on Tuesday, Oct 1 when they travel to Mary Baldwin for a 7:00 p.m. USA South match.
