Fast Start Lifts Men's Lacrosse Over Methodist

–  The Pfeiffer University men's lacrosse team scored six goals in the first quarter while holding visiting Methodist University scoreless in the quarter in a 15-10 USA South win on a sun-drenched Lefko Field on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Treven King led all Falcon scorers, as he notched four goals and an assist in the win.  Fellow freshman Jacob Leone also had a big day, scoring three goals and dishing three assists.  Jared Nelson continued his hot streak, as he managed three goals and two assists in the win while Luke Cox had two goals.  John Allen, Ben Zahorec, and Spencer Stokes each had a goal for the Falcons in the win.

Pfeiffer goalkeeper Tom Romanik had a stellar afternoon in net, recording 12 saves and earning the win, keeping the Falcons undefeated in USA South play.


First Quarter
Pfeiffer dominated the opening quarter, outscoring Methodist 6-0. The Falcons wasted little time, scoring at the 14.21 mark when Luke Cox found the back of the net.  Treven King and Jacob Leone teamed for the second Falcon goal at 12:25 while Leone provided another assist, this time to Jared Nelson with 6:39 left in the quarter, making it 3-0.

Leone got his third assist of the quarter when he fed Ben Zahorec for a man-up goal at 5:33, to push the lead to 4-0.  Nelson would add the final two goals of the quarter to give Pfeiffer the 6-0 advantage.
Second Quarter
Pfeiffer's Trevin King made it 8-0 by scoring the first two goals of the second quarter, with the first coming unassisted and the other from a pass from Chris Alcorn.

Methodist finally got on the board at the 11:04 mark with a goal and added another at 5:49 to provide the 8-2 halftime margin.

Third Quarter
Pfeiffer went up 10-2 with two early goals from Luke Cox and John Allen.  Methodist then scored four straight to cut the margin to 10-6, but Spencer Stokes and Leone ended the quarter with a pair of goals to put the Falcons ahead 12-6 at the end of the quarter.

Fourth Quarter
Methodist opened the quarter with a tally at 14:04 to make it 12-7, but Leone scored back-to-back goals to push the lead back to 14-7.

Methodist then scored at 8:15 to make it 14-8, but Treven King would get what would be the final Pfeiffer goal of the game at 5:42, making it 15-8.  Methodist closed the scoring with goals at 5:08 and 3:02 to provide the 15-10 final.
