Pfeiffer Takes 134-127 Overtime Win Over Johnson University
Misenheimer, N.C. (Nov. 30, 2018) – Senior Kyle Riddley scored a game-high 40 points and added seven rebounds to help life the Pfeiffer University men's basketball team to a 134-127 overtime win over visiting Johnson University on Friday night at Merner Gym.
Riddley's career high came after going 13-of-23 from the field while knocking down three from distance. The Charlotte, N.C. product also was 11-of-16 from the free throw line. Teammate Craig Sabb (Goose Creek, S.C.) also had a tremendous night, scoring 26 points after going 6-of-12 from the floor and 12-of-13 from the line. He also added two three-pointers.
Jacobi Bailey (Columbia, S.C.) finished with 18 points on a 6-of-9 effort from long range. He provided a highlight reel shot that sent the Merner Gym crowd into a frenzy with just two seconds remaining before halftime. Johnson University attempted a long pass to get a last-second shot, but Riddley knocked the pass to Bailey, who launched it from the opponent three-point line and swished the shot to send Pfeiffer into the locker room trailing 48-47.
The Falcons could not shake the visiting Royals in the second half. After leading by as many nine points (108-99) with just 2:34 to play, Johnson whittled away at the Falcon lead, going on a 13-4 run to close the half and forcing overtime tied at 112-112.
In the extra frame, Pfeiffer took control, building a 126-119 lead but Johnson had one last run, cutting the lead to 129-123 with 33 second to go, but the Falcons were able to get two free throws from Riddley and a pair from Sabb to provide the 134-127 win, improving Pfeiffer to 4-1 on the season.
Pfeiffer will play in the third game of the week on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 1, hosting Piedmont International in a 4:00 p.m. game at Merner Gym.
