MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Korval McElroy's layup with 1.2 seconds to play capped North Greenville's 12-0 run to end the game and handed the Falcons (2-4, 0-3 CC) a heartbreaking 57-55 loss. Pfeiffer held a 55-45 lead but were held scoreless for the final 4:32 of the game as the Crusaders stole the victory.
North Greenville never led by more than three points in the contest and went the final 14:51 without the lead before scoring the clincher. De'Vonte Jenkins' dunk with 5:53 to play turned out to be the Falcons final field goal of the game as the Crusaders clawed back.
Micah Parker was clutch for North Greenville in the comeback as he connected on three consecutive three pointers in the closing minutes with the last triple evening the game at 55 with 36 seconds to play. Pfeiffer had the ball and a chance to hold for one shot but Mike Smith was called for a controversial off-the-ball foul with 17 seconds to go, turning the ball over to the Crusaders. LaShawn Alexander had the ball at the top of the key as McElroy executed a backdoor cut and found himself open in the lane for the uncontested game winner.
AJ Clark again led the Falcons and was tremendous in defeat. The junior guard finished with a game-high 26 points on 10-of-20 shooting. Keith Jumper led all players with 11 rebounds and Josh Calhoun added eight points, five rebounds and four assists.
Parker led the guests with 19 points and Spencer Reaves had 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Tonight marked the second time this season that an opponent used a last second basket to topple the Falcons inside Merner Gym. On Nov. 22, Warren Wilson hit a three pointer with one second to play to steal a 73-72 victory.
Pfeiffer won't have much time to regroup as they wrap up their seven game home stand with a matchup against Southern Wesleyan at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
