How it Happened
Pfeiffer struck first with a run in the second inning thanks to a throwing error on the Greensboro catcher. With one out, Pfeiffer got back-to-back singles from Kyler Fairchild and Austin Morton, putting runners on the corners. Morton then stole second but the throw from the catcher sailed left of the play allowing Fairchild to come home to take the 1-0 lead.
The Falcon lead grew to 2-0 in the fourth when Morton and Dorin were both walked, putting runners on first and second. A sacrifice bunt from Brett Graham moved the runners over. Bryan Kowalski, the next Falcon batter skied a ball deep into foul territory off the first base line which was caught by Greensboro's Chance Bryant, which allowed Morton to tag from third and send the Falcons to the 2-0 lead.
Greensboro got their only run of the game in the fifth when Jacob Rodriguez scored on a Falcon error. Rodriquez reached scoring position when Luke Pegram singled, sending Rodriquez the second before the Pfeiffer miscue.
Pfeiffer's Grice pitched through the sixth inning, then Michael Glenn took to the hill, allowing just one hit while striking out one. Cam Reid then got the nod for the eighth inning, as she sat Greensboro down in order on just five pitches. Josh Topper then came in the ninth to close the game and allowed one hit in earning his third save of the season.
Pfeiffer will step out of USA South play with a pair of midweek games against ODAC foe Lynchburg College on March 10 and 11th. First pitch with the Hornets on March 10 is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
