Pfeiffer Baseball Gets 4-1 Series-Opening Win Over Brevard
Misenheimer, N.C. (March 22, 2019) –The Pfeiffer University baseball team started hot and cruised the rest of the way in a 4-1 USA South win over visiting Brevard at Joe Ferebee Field on Friday night.
Brevard – 6-15, 1-11 USA South
Pfeiffer – 13-4, 7-3 USA South
Pfeiffer started the game by putting three on the board while sending nine batters to the plate in the inning. After a leadoff groundout by Hayden McGraw, Mason Striplin singled to third base. Following a strikeout, the Falcons were able to get runners on first and second thanks to a Bryce Marsh walk.
Catcher Chaston Gordon would then lace a two-RBI double down the right field line, driving in Striplin and Marsh. Blake Winebarger kept the inning going by singling through the right side of the Brevard infield, moving Gordon to third. Ira Dorin then singled to left field, scoring Gordon from third, giving the Falcons the 3-0 lead.
Brevard did push a run across in the fifth inning following an RBI single from Jadon Wooten, which allowed Josh Van Liew to score, cutting the Falcon lead to 3-1.
Pfeiffer would get that run back in the eighth inning when Striplin hit a two-out single that allowed Kirby Lambert to score, providing the eventual 4-1 final.
The Falcons then retired the Tornados in order in the ninth to claim the win.

The Falcons and Tornados will play game two of their USA South series on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. at Joe Ferebee Field.
