Women's Volleyball Dominates Lees-McRae

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - For the second time this season, the Pfeiffer University women's volleyball team (7-15, 4-7 CC) defeated Lees-McRae (2-21, 0-10) in dominant fashion. In front of a raucous crowd, Pfeiffer rolled to a straight set victory, and were paced by 10 kills from sophomore Brianna Jones and eight kills by junior Kelly Lancellot. The Lady Falcons hit .221 as a team and had 36 team kills, compared to 15 by the Bobcats.

With her 10 kills tonight, Jones surpassed her total of a season ago, and now has 162 kills on the year, with nine matches remaining. 

Emily Wall dished out 15 assists and Lauren Carmen added 13 helpers of her own. Freshman Haley Denny paced the defense for the Lady Falcons, posting 11 digs. Lancellot was also a force defensively as she recorded five blocks on the evening. Wall and Kelsey Blauser recorded four of the Lady Falcons six service aces in the contest.

Pfeiffer dominated the early stages of the first set, running out to a 10-3 lead before the Bobcats cut the deficit to 12-8. The Lady Falcons rolled off six straight points, capped by a big kill from Blauser to take control of the match. Pfeiffer would record the victory in set one by a score of 25-18.

Set two was all Pfeiffer as the Lady Falcons record 11 kills and a .368 team hitting percentage, compared to six kills and a .000 hitting percentage from Lees-McRae. Pfeiffer scored seven of the first nine points but the Bobcats rallied to cut the lead to 9-6. However, the guests couldn't pull any closer as the Lady Falcons went on a 16-9 run and took the set, 25-15.

Lees-McRae took their first lead of the contest at 10-9 in the third set but the Lady Falcons answered with five of the next six points to take the lead. Lees-McRae pulled within two but Pfeiffer didn't give in and took the set, and match, on a service error.

The Lady Falcons held a 33-20 advantage in digs on the night and 31-15 lead in assists.

Pfeiffer looks to continue their winning streak on Friday night when they travel to North Greenville for a 7 p.m. match.
