MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Pfeiffer women's basketball team (6-19, 5-16 CC) celebrated Senior Night in a big way Saturday evening, edging out Lees-McRae (6-21, 5-16 CC) 66-63 inside Merner Gymnasium.
The win is the first for the Pfeiffer squad since the road victory against Mount Olive in early January. It also evens the season series with the Bobcats, after the Falcons lost at Banner Elk a month ago.
Safia Sheikh led the way for the Falcons, with 18 points on the night, with 12 coming in the second half. Meg Pritchard, Brianna Jones, and Carlisha Holivay also put up double figures with 12, 11, and 10 points, respectively.
The Bobcats Kabrina Truesdale led all scorers with 22 points and a game high four steals. Kerri Belcher and Taylor Collins finished with 13 points each.
Pritchard and Belcher came within one rebound from recording a double-double for their respective teams, with each recording 9 boards.
The game was back and forth for much of the first half, with Pfeiffer holding onto a 32-29 lead at halftime.
The Bobcats would later take advantage of key Falcon missed shots and turnovers, going on a 10-0 run early in the second half. Then, Sheikh would hit a 3-pointer to begin Pfeiffer's comeback, with the Falcons eventually regaining and maintaining the lead with under five minutes left in the game.
Pfeiffer will close out the regular season on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at Belmont Abbey. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
