BANNER ELK, NC- The Pfeiffer women's basketball (5-9,4-6 CC) shot only 58.3 percent from the charity strip and fell to Lees-McRae (5-11,3-6 CC) on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 74-64. Carter Williams led the way for the Falcons scoring 21 points including shooting 4-for-11 behind the three point arc. Meg Pritchard chipped in with 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting.
The Bobcats were lifted by a big performance from Niroska Perez who dropped 23 points and Tayler Collins who registered a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Kerri Belcher added 15 points and nine boards.
The Falcons lead much of the first half, however Lees-McRae ended the half on an 11-0 run to give the Bobcats a 36-29 halftime lead. The Falcons were able to cut the second half lead to five points following a fast break layup by Brianna Jones but a Perez three sparked a 6-0 run and pushed the lead to 12 points at 72-60. Pfeiffer fell despite out shooting LMC 41.8 percent to 38.9 percent.
Each team committed 16 turnovers and the Bobcats outscored the Falcons 22-20 in the paint. Lees- McRae out rebounded Pfeiffer 41- 32, 12 of those boards were offensive which lead to 18 second chance points for the Bobcats. LMC shot an impressive 25-for-28 from the free throw line.
Dajea Scott had a game-high eight assists to go along with seven points and four rebounds for the Falcons. Kayla Whitworth added a team-high six bounds and scored six points.
Pfeiffer stays on the road and try to end the two game losing skid when they travel to Limestone on Monday, January 19 for a 5:30 p.m. matchup.
