Standout shortstop Vada Blue Sherrill added a trio of honors to her resume as the junior was named ECAC Player of the Year and also earned NFCA Second Team All-American and First Team All-ECAC accolades. Monte Sherrill was named ECAC Coach of the Year and Stephanie Fortner was also a First Team All-ECAC selection.
Sherrill shattered the record book in her junior year. The Hiddenite, N.C. native broke the single-season team record for batting average (.508), on base percentage (.593), slugging percentage (.992), runs (64), home runs (16), runs batted in (69), total bases (129) and stolen bases (56). Sherrill earned a pair of NFCA National Player of the Week honors and also an ECAC Player of the Week. She becomes the first player to be named ECAC Player of the Year in Pfeiffer history and the first All-American selection in program history.
Coach Sherrill earned the ECAC Coach of the Year award after leading the Falcons to an ECAC Tournament Championship and a 37-5 record. Sherrill's Falcons broke the program record for batting average, on base percentage, slugging percentage, runs, doubles, home runs and runs batted in during their 2018 campaign. Pfeiffer hit a scorching .362 as a team, breaking the record by 53 points. Pfeiffer went 19-2 at home and owns an 83-13 overall mark since the start of 2017.
Fortner was also named to the First Team All-ECAC after an outstanding senior season. Fortner finished seventh in program history with a .372 batting average and .620 on base percentage. Fortner set career highs in home runs, runs batted in and doubles in her final year with Pfeiffer. Fortner had a 16-game hitting streak and hit .388 with all six homers in the month of March.
