MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- The Pfeiffer softball team (25-3) earned a split with Ferrum (17-9) on Monday afternoon and suffered its first home loss of the season. The Falcons also saw their 13-game winning streak come to an end but bounced back with a victory in game two.
In the opener, Ashton Lambeth kept Pfeiffer off balance the entire game and tossed a complete game shutout while allowing just one hit. The Falcons weren't able to square anything up in the contest and the only hit came courtesy off an infield single by Makenzie Pennell. Lambeth struck out two and walked two to improve to 4-3 on the season.
Kiana Millsaps was the tough luck loser for PFeiffer in the circle. Millsaps struck out four and allowed two runs (one earned) in her seven innings of work. The Panthers pushed single runs across in the second and sixth innings to secure the win.
The bats came alive in game two as Pfeiffer scored eight runs on eight hits. Stephanie Fortner's RBI groundout scored Vada Blue Sherrill in the bottom of the first to put Pfeiffer ahead early. The Falcons pushed across three runs on two hits in the bottom of the second to extend the lead to 4-0 before Ferrum answered with a run in the third.
Ferrum would add a couple runs late but fell, 8-3. Millsaps earned the win pitching in relief of Kennedy Lester. Millsaps went 4.1 innings and allowed a pair of runs to get her 16th win of the season.
The Falcons wrap up their 12-game homestand when they host Livingstone on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
