MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- For the second time this season, the Pfeiffer softball team (20-2) swept Salem, winning by scores of 10-2 and 8-0 on Saturday afternoon at Jack Ingram Field. The Falcons winning streak extended to nine in the sweep.
In game one, Kiana Millsaps improved to 13-2 in the circle by tossing five innings and allowing a pair of runs.
The Falcons took the early advantage on a solo blast by Makenzie Pennell in the bottom of the second. Later in the inning, a run would extend the Pfeiffer rally and bring Vada Blue Sherrill to the play with two on and two out. The junior shortstop parked one over the left centerfield fence to give the Falcons a 5-0 lead.
Kari Westerbeek hit a pinch-hit two-run homer in the fifth before Pennell ended the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
Kennedy Lester dominated game two, tossing five shutout innings and allowing just a pair of hits. The senior struck out one to move to 6-0 on the year.
At the plate, the Falcons scored once in the first and four times in the second. In the fourth, Stephanie Fortner drew a bases-loaded walk and Millsaps drove in two with a single.
Lester shut the door in the fifth to invoke the mercy rule.
The Falcons continue a 14-game homestand on Wednesday when they host Meredith at 3/5 p.m.
