MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The No. 18 Pfeiffer softball team (16-2) saw its 12-game winning streak come to an end in a split with Anderson (17-5) on Thursday afternoon. The Falcons dominated game one, winning by a final of 8-2 before dropping the finale 7-0.
Kiana Millsaps got the start in the circle in the opener but did the most damage with her bat. The sophomore slugged a 3-run homer to left field to cap a 4-run first inning that put Pfeiffer ahead for good.
Anderson struck for one run in the top of the first before an RBI sac fly from Makenzie Pennell evened the game at 1. Millsaps strode to the plate with two runners on and connected for her first long ball of the season.
Anderson cut the deficit to 4-2 with a run in the top of the fourth but Pfeiffer had another 4-run answer in the bottom of the inning. Vada Blue Sherrill singled to score Kaleigh Troutman and Rachel Crowder came up with the bases loaded. Crowder crushed a pitch to right center, scoring all three runners and gave the Falcons a comfortable six run lead.
Kennedy Lester earned the win in relief of Millsaps. Lester tossed 3.2 scoreless innings and struck out three batters.
Freshman Caitlin Christian got the start in game two and was masterful through four innings. The lefthander had a no-hitter through four but ran into trouble in the sixth. Anderson exploded for five runs on five hits and took advantage of three Pfeiffer miscues in the frame to surge ahead.
The Trojans added two more runs in the top of the seventh as Pfeiffer was shut out for the second time on the year.
Augie Pena allowed just three Pfeiffer hits in the complete game shutout.
The Falcons return to action on Saturday afternoon as they host Louisburg College at 1:30 p.m.
