SALISBURY, N.C. - The Pfeiffer softball team (7-1) swept a pair of games on the second day of the Catawba Invitational. Pfeiffer won the opener against Augusta (3-11) by a score of 5-1 and defeated host Catawba (3-10) 9-2 in the finale.
Kiana Millsaps earned her first start of the year and didn't disappoint. The sophomore tossed a complete game against Augusta and allowed just one run on seven hits. Millsaps struck out five and walked three to earn her first victory of the year. After hitting three homeruns against Augusta yesterday, Pfeiffer added two more today. Abi Peck and Kaleigh Troutman connected on long balls, Troutman's second straight game with a big fly.
Peck drove in three runs and reached base safely three times. Stephanie Fortner added the other RBI in the victory.
In game two, Pfeiffer scored four times in the top of the 4th and didn't look back. Vada Blue Sherrill crushed a homerun in the game and Troutman went 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Emma Tuttle drove in two runs and Peck scored twice and added a double. Caitlin Christian earned the winning, going all seven innings and allowing two runs. The lefty struck out six and walked just one batter.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Sunday afternoon as they host Glenville St. in non-conference action. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
