Pfeiffer Gets A Set On Second Place Barton; Falls 3-1

MISENHEIMER, NC- The Pfeiffer Falcons (0-14, 0-13 CC) fell to the Barton Bulldogs (15-5, 13-2 CC) on Saturday inside Merner Gymnasium, 3-1, as the Falcons pulled were to pull out set three with the help of Evan Blair's nine kill performance in the set. The senior outside hitter finished the afternoon with a team –high 14 kills and a career-high 14 digs.

In sets one and two, Barton's attack was too much for the Pfeiffer block.  Barton's hitting percentage  was .346 in set one and set two they cooled off but still hit a respectable.200. The Falcons on the other hand hit .000 and -.231 in set one and two respectively.

Coach Lawson energized his team for set three as they came out and took the set, 25-22, behind the attack of Blair and the scorching team hitting percentage of .464. Along with Blair, Corbin Keller and Jesse Print had three kills apiece. Barton's Aleksa Brkovic led his team in set three with seven kills, but the rest of the Bulldog attack was only able to hit .172.

In set four, the Falcons held a 13-11 lead until the Bulldogs were able to tack on a few points and eventually started to extend their lead out to five until Print nailed a kill. The Falcons were unable to find the right defense against the Angelos Mandilaris serve as he was able to hit on five consecutive points and the Bulldogs went onto win 25-16 in set for and the match.

Print found his touch with 10 kills and setter Hunter Gray served up a 31 assists.

The Falcons return to play on Tuesday night as they host Belmont Abbey on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. inside Merner Gymnasium.
