After a night that saw senior Evan Blair record a season-high 19 kills and hit .371, the outside hitter on Saturday hit .319 with 14 kills as the Pfeiffer Falcons (0-8, 0-8 CC) fell to the Erskine Flying Fleet (3-10, 3-6 CC) in three sets.
Just as Pfeiffer took an early 4-2 lead in set one with help from kills by Corbin Keller, by Blair and service ace by Jesse Print, the Fleet rallied off four consecutive points of their own. The Falcons were down by five points at 14-9 and rallied back to a three point deficit with a service ace and a kill by Keller and two more of his team-high 14 kills by Blair. Pfeiffer was holding their ground against the Fleet but Erskine was too much down the stretch as they took next three out of five points to win the set 25-20.
Again in set two, Pfeiffer fought their way to a 4-2 lead until Erskine rallied off three points in a row. The Falcons won the next point at 5-5 but again the Falcon offense committed four consecutive errors. With the Fleet gaining its largest spread of six points in the set, Pfeiffer was able to rally back to three points with the help two kills by Blair and several Fleet errors. Pfeiffer was not able to pull any closer as they fell in set two 25-19 and in set three 25-18.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Friday as they travel to Barton for a 7 p.m. first serve.
