BANNER ELK, NC – The Pfeiffer Falcons fell to the Lees-McRae Bobcats in three competitive sets on Saturday night as sophomore libero Noah Beane had a match-high 10 digs.
After falling behind, 18-11 in set one, the Falcons were able to cut into the Bobcat lead and came within five at 20-15. The Falcons and Bobcats traded points in the last nine but Pfeiffer fell 25-19.
In set two, the Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held onto the lead until 7-6. In that rally, Beane had two service aces. The Bobcats were able to score the next three of four points until Pfeiffer rallied with a service ace by Corbin Keller and kills by Keller and Jesse Print to retake the lead at 15-13. Lees-McRae took the next 12 of 18 points to go on to win 25-19.
Again in set three, the Falcons were able to be competitive as they traded points to remain tied at five. Down 17-13, senior Evan Blair accounted for the next four points with a kill and three consecutive aces as Pfeiffer was able to tie the score 17-17. Pfeiffer was unable to hold off Lees-McRae went onto win 25-21.
Lees-McRae on the evening hit positive in all three sets as Wes Rogman led the Bobcats with 10 kills on the night and Reto Pfund had a match-high 32 assists.
Blair led Pfeiffer on the evening with six kills and tallied seven digs.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Tuesday as they travel to Belmont Abbey for a 7 p.m. first serve.
