DUE WEST, SC- The Pfeiffer men's volleyball team (16-8, 15-3 CC) headed into Saturday's semifinal match looking to return to the Conference Championship for the fourth time in the last five seasons. However, the Falcons fell short to a good Barton team, dropping a four set match 3-1. Pfeiffer had won the previous four matches with the Bulldogs heading into tonight's contest. In his final match Jonathan Martinez notched another great performance posting a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs.
Pfeiffer got back on track after dropping the first set, taking game two by a score of 26-24. With the Falcons trailing 12-11, a Dan Tynski kill ignited a 6-0 Pfeiffer run, which was highlighted by back-to-back blocks by Evan Blair, and capped off with a Jonathan Martinez kill. The Bulldogs climbed back into the set tying the game 24-24. However, Pfeiffer closed the match on a 2-0 run to even the match up one game apiece.
Pfeiffer was unable to pick up another match victory dropping sets three and four. Barton was led by Aleksa Brkovic and Pierre Tang-Taye both of them posted double-doubles. Brkovic had a match-high 19 kills with 10 digs and a .385 hitting percentage. Tang-Taye added 18 kills, and match-highs in both hitting percentage .433 and digs with 16.
Harrison Lutz ends his career with a team-high 38 assists and finishes the season as the second player in school history to ever reach 1000 helpers for season. Seniors Sonny Hirini and Fabio Diniz each finished the night with seven kills. Wyatt Hamilton chipped in with six kills and senior libero Kevin Ecklund recorded six digs and one kill.
The Falcons conclude the season winning a share of the regular season title, however, Pfeiffer misses out on chance for their second consecutive Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship and winning four-of-the last five.
