DUE WEST, S.C. - Conference Carolinas announced its All-Conference award winners at this afternoon's award banquet and five Falcons earned accolades. Harrison Lutz and Jonathan Martinez were named to the First Team All-Conference, while Sonny Hirini and Fabio Diniz were named Second Team. Rounding out the All-Conference winners was Evan Blair who was selected to the Third Team All-Conference.
Lutz currently ranks sixth in the nation and first in the conference with 10.93 assists per set and broke the school record for most assists in a match as he handed out 74 helpers against Emmanuel. The senior has topped the 50 assist mark on five separate occasions and recorded a double-double against King with 66 assists and a season-high 13 digs. On the season, Lutz has dished out 962 assists and is just 58 shy of breaking the all-time record set by David Specian in 2012.
Martinez leads the Falcons with 312 kills and averages 3.59 kills per set. The senior has topped 20 kills in a match on three different occasions and had a season-high 25 kills against Belmont Abbey on Feb. 2 in a 3-2 victory. Martinez has added three double-doubles on the year and is second on the team with 149 digs. The Puerto Rico native has added 40 total blocks, 23 service aces and a .298 hitting percentage and was a Second Team All-Conference performer a year ago.
Both Hirini and Diniz earn their second consecutive Second Team All-Conference award. Hirini became Pfeiffer's all-time leader in kills this season and finishes the year with 286 kills. The senior recorded double-digit kills in 12 of the Falcons first 13 matches and posted a season-high 23 kills in a 3-2 win over King. Hirini added three double-doubles on the season and added 41 total blocks. Diniz, last year's national leader in hitting percentage, has 191 kills and a .417 percentage this year. Diniz has added 43 digs and 70 total blocks and recorded a season-high 17 kills against King.
Rounding out the list is junior Evan Blair who had a standout season in the middle. Blair broke the single match record for hitting percentage twice on the year and had three consecutive matches where he hit over .713. Blair totaled nine matches where he didn't commit an attack error and leads the Conference in hitting percentage (.458) and blocks per set (1.20).
The Falcons return to action this evening as they take on Barton in the Conference Carolinas Tournament semifinal. Pfeiffer, the reigning Tournament Champions, are looking for their fourth title in five seasons.
