Pfeiffer Dominates On Senior Night

MISENEHIMER, NC- The six seniors put on a stellar performance on Senior Night as the Pfeiffer men's volleyball (14-7, 14-3 CC) team picked up their 14th win of the season, a 3-1 victory over Belmont Abbey (14-10, 9-7 CC). Senior's Sonny Hirini and Jonathan Martinez paced the Falcons. Martinez recoded a team-high 17 kills, and Hirini chipped in with 14 kills while posting a .379 hitting percentage.

The Falcons scored eight of the first 10 points to start the opening set, highlighted by back-to-back kills by Hirini. With Pfeiffer leading 20-18, an Evan Blair kill sparked a 3-0 run to extend the lead to 23-18. Senior Fabio Diniz capped off the set with a kill.

Pfeiffer took a 9-8 advantage in the second game, when the Falcons went on a 5-0 run, which was highlighted by two consecutive service aces by Blair. The Crusaders fought their way back into the contest with a 3-0 run cutting the Falcons lead to 15-14. Diniz again capped off the set this time with a game winning solo block.

After dropping the third set, Pfeiffer got back on track taking the final set to improve to 14-3 in the Conference. Wyatt Hamilton and Blair combined for an assisted block to ignite a 3-0 run, extending the Falcon lead to 24-18. Martinez capped of the match with a game winning kill.  

This was the final regular season home match for six Falcon seniors, a group that recorded a record of 64-31 and made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2015. Senior Harrison Lutz posted a match-high 42 assists and recorded seven digs and one block assist. Diniz registered 11 kills, with a .450 hitting percentage and four total blocks. Hamilton recorded five kills, four digs and two block assists. Senior Libero Kevin Ecklund registered four digs.

Pfeiffer caps off the regular season at Barton on Tuesday, April 12. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
