Edelman and Brophy Pick Up 12 Kills Each as Men's Volleyball Hits .446 Cruising to 3-0 Sweep over Lees-McRae

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Pfeiffer University hit .446 as a team and picked up 11 total blocks cruising to a 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-19) victory over Lees-McRae College in Conference Carolinas men's volleyball action on Tuesday night. The win pushes the Falcons to 6-3 overall, 5-1 in league play, while the Bobcats drop to 5-3 in both categories.

Set one saw both teams go back-and-forth early on until a kill by Micah Bortner (Dallastown, PA) gave the Falcons a lead for good at 16-14. Lees-McRae would keep things close as a Randy Ramirez (Guaynabo, PUERTO RICO) ace got the Bobcats to within one at 22-21, but kills from Bortner, Fabio Diniz (Belo Horizonte, BRAZIL) and a final blow from Eric Edelman (Henrietta, NY) allowed Pfeiffer to hold on for a 1-0 match lead.

Set two was all Pfeiffer as a Caleb Brophy (Mission Viejo, CA) kill at 10-5 forced a Lees-McRae timeout. Edelman would post a pair of kills in a four-play span while Pfeiffer capitalized on Bobcat miscues to race out to a 20-11 lead. Brophy would pick up three of the sets final kills while Bortner would deliver the final kill for a 25-16 set win and 2-0 match lead.

Brophy picked up the first kill in set three as Pfeiffer would again never look back. A Bortner ace and Edelman kill on back-to-back plays put Pfeiffer up 9-6 before an Edelman kill and ace in two-straight plays shot the Falcons to a 21-17 advantage. Brophy would pick up the match's final two kills while David Specian (Loxahatchee, FL) ended the contest with a service ace for the final point.

Edelman and Brophy would each rack up a dozen kills on the night both hitting very well. Brophy hit at an even .500 while Edelman sported a .474. As a team, the Falcons never hit lower than .333 in any set posting .565 in the middle frame and .429 to close things out. Specian would assist 33 times in the victory while Brophy also added eight kills. Blocking wise, Pfeiffer out-blocked Lees-McRae 11-4 using six solo blocks. Edelman and Joe Supko (Irwin, PA) would each have a pair of solo stuffs.
